Three cheers to new Uncle Kevin Youkilis for being Game 1's Cape League Alumni Player of the Game!He didn't care that going into the game he was 0-17 against Tampa Bay starter, James Shield - he nailed two hits off of him.
During the game Youk went 3 for 4 with two Doubles and an RBI. On the field he made Mike Lowell proud by knocking down Upton's shot up the line and holding him to a single in the 8th, during a critical point in the game.
Who will be tonight's player of the game? I can't wait - GO SOX!

2008 ALDS Cape Cod League Alumni MVP

Who can forget Bay's 2 run homer in Game 1.
Or his 2 run homer in Game 2, with a 3rd RBI that game.
Overall Bay just played phenomenal ball for the Red Sox and left many to wonder, Manny who?

Cape Cod League Alumni Player of the Game - Game 4 ALDS
I know I'm a little late on posting this, but hey, it's up before tonight's start of the AlCS!!!!
I'm still recovering from the excitement of the game.
This is another instance where I thought the Cape League Alumni Player of the Game was going to be easy to choose. Varitek. But then I started reading around the bloggernauts and everyone seems to be cheering for Kotsay. So once again, I leave it up to you.

Cape Cod League Alumni Player of the Game - Game 3 ALDS 2008
I talked to my dad about it. We just cannot come up with a Cape Cod League Alumni Player of the Game for last night. By virtue of their win, it should have been an Angels player. The only one eligible is Teixeira. While he rocked it in Game 2, last night he went 2 for 6, Left 5 men on base and didn't score a single run or RBI - so really, does that constitute a POG?
We then started looking at the Sox Alumni, who honestly, didn't fare any better last night. Is it possible to have NO player of the game? Leaving it to you, once again, to decide.
Discuss.

Cape Cod League Alumni Player of the Game - Game 1 ALDS 2008
The winner was clear to me...until it became a little blurry.
Jason Bay!
Jacoby Ellsbury!
So I made my *official* polling call to my dad and my brother (b/c there cannot be a tie between the three of us). Dad said "Bay, no questions!" Brother said "Ellsbury for overall player, Bay for play of the game" - Does that work? Hmmm....So I need your help. This is just too close for me to call. My brother said Bay would be the less "controversial" pick...but do I just want to play it safe? No, instead I'll pass the buck to you.

Kevin Youkilis Makes Baseball History
In an apropos game-ending ground ball to first, Kevin Youkilis made baseball history yesterday. The Red Sox Gold Glove first baseman set a Major League record by playing 194 consecutive error less games at first base. The Sox won the game 5-0 over the Oakland Athletics.
The previous record holder was Steve Garvey who played for both the Dodgers and Padres from June 26, 1983 through April 14, 1985.
Youkilis met Garvey for the first time on March 29th of this year in Los Angeles. He tied his record on Tuesday, April 1st (no joke!) and surpassed him yesterday, April 2nd. Surprisingly, Youk said he didn't know about the record until after the game - where he was awarded the first base (which was signed by teammates) from McAfee Coliseum, home of the A's. I have a hard time believing this, especially since he met Garvey earlier in the week - but hey - maybe he was just being modest.
This milestone leads me to name Youk as this seasons first Former Cape League Player of the week. Sure, the week isn't over yet, but it's my award so it's my prerogative! Youkilis played for the Bourne Braves in 2000, where he batted .309 with three homers and 14 RBIs.
Congratulations, YOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

Former Cape League Players Score 100% of Runs in Game 4 of the World Series!
Here are the statistics for those Cape League Alumni who took part in last night's game. Charts created by SoxyLady, stats taken from MLB.com.

Before I get to the player of the game, it is worth it to point out that the former Cape Leaguers scored 100% of the runs in Game 4 of the World Series. 100%. How great is that? And without further ado...Congratulations to Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Lowell AND Bobby Kielty who were voted* as the "Cape League Alumni Players of the Game" - As the owner of this blog, I am allowed to vote all three in because they all had incredibly significant plays to bring the Red Sox their second World Series in my lifetime!
*The voting went as follows:
SoxyLady: Ugh, this is hard one. I'm going to go with Kielty - one pitch, one run - the difference in the game. Plus, he said this:
"It's the world series, I was going down swinging - first pitch I was swinging at anything, didn't care if it was rolled in"Soxy's Brother: Ellsbury batted .438 for the series and didn't seem phased by the spotlight - in fact i'm pretty sure he would have run through that wall to catch out #2 in the9th if he had to. but lowell's HR and picture perfect slide would have made tom emansky proud.
Soxy's Dad: LOWELL - he had a big HR and a perfect slide home on Tek's hit. It's Lowell, no question.
So now onto the harder question - Who is the Former Cape League Player World Series MVP?
Here are the totals as I have them - and I'm not going to include pitching stats in here. Unless there is a loud demand for them, I'm going to keep it offense only.

So SoxyLady readers, I need YOUR VOTE!!!!! You tell me who the MVP is!!!!!

Congratulations to Jacoby Ellsbury, who was voted* as the "Cape League Alumni Player of the Game"
*The voting went as follows:
Who am I kidding? I didn't even ask or collect votes last night. It was Ellsbury, hands down (Lowell made a good stab at it, especially with his steal to 3rd!) but Ellsbury. ON FIRE! Not only did he have three doubles, but two of them came in the same inning. It's been said before, it will be said many many many times again...this kid is something special.
We're only a few minutes away from the start of game four and in the efforts of not jinxing anything I'm just going to say "GO SOX!"

Wow. Thirteen times, in case you were counting.
I can do nothing but post random thoughts about this game b/c my head is still spinning (and I'm a bit tired to boot!)
- Pedroia? Holy.Shit.
- Youks? Can he get any better?
- Drew - I don't see it yet, but I need to document this somewhere. Last week my brother said "If the Red Sox make it to the World Series, JD Drew will be your MVP"
- I was also IMing with my brother last night here is part of the conversation
SoxyLady: I seriously think I'm in love with Josh Beckett right now, seriously.
Brother: Me too, weird! - The only thing I am really enjoying about seeing these games on Fox is getting to hear random conversations b/c of strategically placed mics.
- There was the Ump talking to Beckett about the wet balls - nothing really exciting, but I still have always wondered how they talk to each other
- Then there was this gem. The convo between Royce Clayton and Coco Crisp was priceless - simply priceless
- I want my free taco! Somebody steal a base!

*The voting went as follows:
SoxyLady: Youk. He went 2-5, scored three runs and had a 2-out RBI. The man's on fire.
Soxy's Brother: Youk for his hustle on Ortiz's double to the monster - scoring from 1st on what should have been a single to LF.
Soxy's Dad: Youk, hands down
On a side note, as a Sox fan maybe we should have voted Speier as player of the game? He came in, walked three runs in and came out of the game with a 0.00 ERA (leaving the pitcher before him, Morales, with a 94.50 ERA!) Now that's crafty!

Happy World Series Day!!!
The line-ups have been announced, tickets sold, fans are pumped! Now if only the rain will hold off we'll be ready for GAME 1 of the 2007 WORLD SERIES!
If you're a regular reader of my blog, you'll know I have a strong connection to the Cape Cod Baseball League. This year there are 19 Cape League alumni who play/coach on the teams in the World Series! While not all of them are on the WS Roster, they all played part in getting their team to this all important series.
Red Sox:
John Farrell (Hyannis, 1982), Doug Mirabelli (Hyannis, 1990), Jason Varitek (Hyannis, 1991 & 1993), Mike Lowell (Chatham, 1994), Javier Lopez (Falmouth, 1997), Eric Hinske (Hyannis, 1997), Bobby Kielty (Brewster, 1998), Kyle Snyder (Chatham, 1998), Kevin Cash (Falmouth, 1999), Kevin Youkilis (Bourne, 2000) and Jaocby Ellsbury (Falmouth, 2004),
Rockies:
Matt Herges (Brewster, 1990), Todd Helton (Orleans, 1994), Josh Fogg (Hyannis, 1996), Garrett Atkins (Cotuit, 1998 & 1999), Brad Hawpe (Yarmouth-Dennis, 1999), Cory Sullivan (Yarmouth-Dennis, 2000), Ryan Speier (Bourne, 2002) and Chris Iannetta (Chatham, 2002)
I'll be watching these players specifically to see the impact they have on this World Series. I figure it's an angle you other Sox bloggers out there aren't covering!

I Hate When There's No Baseball On....
I really hope the weather in Boston holds off on Friday. I'm ready for this series to start. It's going to be a great one.
- Beckett vs. Sabathia
- Schilling vs. Carmona
- Matsuzaka vs. Westbrook
- Well...game four is still a little up in the air....
You all likely know that new fan favorite, Jacoby Ellsbury played for the Famlouth Commodores* in the Cape League during the summer of 2004. (Have I mentioned they lost the 2004 Championship to my Y-D Red Sox, when my host-brother, Brett Harker, pitched?)
Well Jensen Lewis, a pitcher for the Indians, also played on the Falmouth team in 2004. It's a long shot, but Ellsbury could actually face Lewis in this series! How cool would that be? Below is a 2004 team photo of the Commodores...Ellsbury is in the third row from the bottom, 4th player from the left (basically in the middle of the picture) he looks so little! Jensen is in the third row from the bottom, 2nd player from the left**!!
An "inside source" mentions that Jensen was the PA announcer for the team that season, and didn't pitch. And how cool is this? He says Jacoby wore a Red Sox hat all summer - even though he had no idea he'd be drafted by the Sox! Love him.
*Check out Jacoby Ellsbury's Cape League Stats here and Jensen Lewis' Cape League Stats here.
