Cape Cod League Alumni Player of the Game - Game 1 ALCS

Three cheers to new Uncle Kevin Youkilis for being Game 1's Cape League Alumni Player of the Game!

He didn't care that going into the game he was 0-17 against Tampa Bay starter, James Shield - he nailed two hits off of him.

During the game Youk went 3 for 4 with two Doubles and an RBI. On the field he made Mike Lowell proud by knocking down Upton's shot up the line and holding him to a single in the 8th, during a critical point in the game.

Who will be tonight's player of the game? I can't wait - GO SOX!

Kevin Youkilis Makes Baseball History

In an apropos game-ending ground ball to first, Kevin Youkilis made baseball history yesterday. The Red Sox Gold Glove first baseman set a Major League record by playing 194 consecutive error less games at first base. The Sox won the game 5-0 over the Oakland Athletics.

The previous record holder was Steve Garvey who played for both the Dodgers and Padres from June 26, 1983 through April 14, 1985.

Youkilis met Garvey for the first time on March 29th of this year in Los Angeles. He tied his record on Tuesday, April 1st (no joke!) and surpassed him yesterday, April 2nd. Surprisingly, Youk said he didn't know about the record until after the game - where he was awarded the first base (which was signed by teammates) from McAfee Coliseum, home of the A's. I have a hard time believing this, especially since he met Garvey earlier in the week - but hey - maybe he was just being modest.

This milestone leads me to name Youk as this seasons first Former Cape League Player of the week. Sure, the week isn't over yet, but it's my award so it's my prerogative! Youkilis played for the Bourne Braves in 2000, where he batted .309 with three homers and 14 RBIs.

Congratulations, YOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

Youk To Shave His Beard (FINALLY!!!!)

Much like the hoopla that was made about Johnny Damon's hair, Kevin Youkilis is expected to shave off his goatee for charity. The Boston Herald is reporting Youk will shave his face for a $5,000 donation made by Gillette to his Hits for Kids charity.

Nice work Youk. You're helping out kids and getting rid of that furry animal on your face!

Speaking of Youk, and his charity - did you guys know that he's officially engaged to Enza Sambataro? And that she has a son, Mikey? Is that the kid Youk was holding during the AL East Championship celebrations? I had no idea.

Rox Slide!

Game 1 2007 World Series
Red Sox 13 - Rockies 1

Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow. Thirteen times, in case you were counting.

I can do nothing but post random thoughts about this game b/c my head is still spinning (and I'm a bit tired to boot!)
  • Pedroia? Holy.Shit.
  • Youks? Can he get any better?
  • Drew - I don't see it yet, but I need to document this somewhere. Last week my brother said "If the Red Sox make it to the World Series, JD Drew will be your MVP"
    • I was also IMing with my brother last night here is part of the conversation
SoxyLady: I seriously think I'm in love with Josh Beckett right now, seriously.
      Brother: Me too, weird!
  • The only thing I am really enjoying about seeing these games on Fox is getting to hear random conversations b/c of strategically placed mics.
    • There was the Ump talking to Beckett about the wet balls - nothing really exciting, but I still have always wondered how they talk to each other
    • Then there was this gem. The convo between Royce Clayton and Coco Crisp was priceless - simply priceless
      • I want my free taco! Somebody steal a base!
As promised here are the statistics for those Cape League Alumni who took part in last night's game. Charts created by SoxyLady, stats taken from RedSox.com.

*The voting went as follows:
SoxyLady: Youk. He went 2-5, scored three runs and had a 2-out RBI. The man's on fire.
Soxy's Brother: Youk for his hustle on Ortiz's double to the monster - scoring from 1st on what should have been a single to LF.
Soxy's Dad: Youk, hands down

On a side note, as a Sox fan maybe we should have voted Speier as player of the game? He came in, walked three runs in and came out of the game with a 0.00 ERA (leaving the pitcher before him, Morales, with a 94.50 ERA!) Now that's crafty!

YOUk know it's On Like Papelbon(s Dance)

These Boys have the best record in Baseball. I'm still in awe.

All photos are courtesy of Kelly O'Connor at Sitting Still.

And some updated videos of Youk and Papelbon Dancing - because what I had before was just NOT enough.

If you missed any of the celebration on Friday night (like I did) take a look here and thank Texas Gal from Center Field (especially since I knew Paps was dancing in his underwear but I had no idea there was bare-assed jock-strap partying!!)

Cinco-Ocho is a Horse, Dude

Beth, over at Cursed to First just posted this great video of a Papelbon interview. You must watch. He not only trashes Beckett and talks about partying with JayZ but also says Alyssa Milano never "did it for him." Ok, he is obviously too young to remember 'Who's the Boss." Haha.

I decided to watch more of those video gems and came across this interview Paps did with Youk. I had NO IDEA the team also referred to Tavarez as Freddy Krueger! Hahahaha!!! And, again, Paps is trashing Beckett. What is going on there?!

Good times, good stuff...even though it is a little creepy when Papelbon refers to himself as 'Cinco-Ocho.'
